Following recent observations and estimates of NASA, the famous asteroid Vesta is not what it seems at first sight.
“Vesta is unlike any known asteroid. It just has some features that make us ask ourselves seriously on its nature,” said Vishnu Reddy in the first instance, a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany.
With enrollment to orbit Vesta, Dawn space mission discovered that the so called asteroid somehow evolved into a planet with complex geological processes that have already formed an internal core, probably made of iron and covered with a mixture of minerals.
Scientists still do not know how the vest was not affected by the impacts that destroyed most of the bodies in the United asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
After one year of observations, NASA’s Dawn mission will travel to the largest object in the area, dwarf planet Ceres.
