Gene is found in all mammals and plays an important role in protecting cells from damage typical for elderly. Scientists have manipulated the gene, called SIRT6, in laboratory mice and found that this resulted in prolonging life by up to 15%.According to a study published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature, when researchers at Bar-Ilan University in Israel have reduced or even eliminated this gene, mice became diabetic, were curved spine and accelerated aging.
