Centipedele can occur in any environment, because they are adaptable to almost any type of climate on Earth, from the rainforests to desert climates. Scolopendra gigantea is the largest species of invertebrates on Earth and may reach lengths between 25 and 30 inches.

Representatives of this family are carnivorous insects that feed on lizards, frogs, birds, mice, bat and sometimes even tarantulas. Their venom is toxic to humans, and bites are very painful, causing swelling, chills, fever and dizziness, but rarely death.
